Guidelines to help select the best Mutual & Exchange Traded funds for your portfolio
By William Amanhyia
-
Always compare mutual funds and choose funds with very low fees
-
Always choose funds that have No Sales Charges ( also called no load funds)
-
Consider the style and type of fund
-
Choose mutual funds with low expense ratios (preferably below 1)
-
Select mutual funds with low turnovers, no higher than 50% a year, preferably 20%
-
Research the holdings of any funds you choose to alleviate the risk of investing in funds with the same or similar holdings.
-
Evaluate managers and past results (but always remember that past results do not guarantee future returns)
